Different Stress Relievers to Make You Feel Better

Studies show that stress can cause medical and social problems. To relieve yourself from tension and anxiety, you can try several stress relievers. The stress relievers that will be discussed can be learned while going over this article while others will take some time and practice. Consider the following stress relievers below:

1. Breathing – One of the most basic stress relievers is breathing, that is, deep and long breathing. Taking deep breaths provide good oxygen to the blood that helps condition the body, relax muscles and calm the mind. Breathing exercises can be performed anywhere and it can help you reduce stress quickly.

2. Meditation – Meditation is ideal in conjunction with breathing exercises. Meditation takes you to a different state that is pretty much similar to sleep. When you meditate, your body releases hormones that promote good health. Another benefit of meditation is that it drives your thoughts away from the source of your stress and into calmness and helps you relax mentally.

3. Yoga – Yoga is considered as the best among all stress relievers. It is the oldest practice for self-improvement. This practice combines several stress reducing techniques like breathing, meditation, imagery and movement. It is said to be the most effective among different stress relievers because it targets the body, mind and the spirit, thus, providing long-term benefits.

4. Guided Imagery – This method is a good way to get rid of stress by relaxing your body. Some find this method easier than meditation but for some it is a lot easier to focus on something like an image than on something abstract like what happens when you meditate. You can play natural background sounds while practicing guided imagery for a more realistic experience.

5. Exercise – People often exercise only to lose weight, to become physically fit and attractive. However, exercise and stress management are very much connected. Exercise causes you to become distracted from stressful circumstances and gives you a boost of endorphins (body substance for relieving stress). The more you become physically active the more you experience stress reduction.

6. Muscle Relaxation – Stress can also be felt because of tired muscles. By relaxing all of your muscles in the body, you will feel relieved from stress. Relaxing your facial muscles is a good way to start. You can flex your cheek muscles and hold it tight for at least ten seconds. Afterwards, flex your neck, shoulders and so on with other body parts.      

7. Music Therapy – Music therapy contains several health benefits for people suffering mild to severe cases of stress. For relieving stress, you need to choose the right music to lower blood pressure, relax the body and calm the mind.

Stress is something that can be managed and eliminated through different stress relievers. All you have to do is take some time to try out the stress relievers mentioned above and find one that will work best for you.
